Sakanaya, the home of traditional Japanese, Surf inspired food.
Many moons ago Yuji Minagawa was head chef for Tanuki on Queen Street in Auckland. Yearning to have a place of his own and the freedom to create a Japanese restaurant where he could share his passion for food and surfing Yuji set out to open his own little slice of sushi heaven. An accessable and central location on the fringe of the Auckland CBD was found and Sakanaya was born. Yuji then created a warm atmosphere with art and surfing paraphernalia backed up by friendly staff, many who had been working with him before. When not in the restaurant Yuji is either out getting the freshest fish of the day or surfing out in New Zealand's East or West Coast with a few of his mates.
